The Pan-African Experience is a podcast that aims to re-ignite discussions about Pan-Africanism. And the purpose is the plant seeds of unity and inspiration among Africans, both at home and in the diaspora. Our discussions are based on extensive research. I speak to academics to expand on existing/new knowledge, and proffer solutions to internal and external issues faced by Africans/Black people.

Ep. 07 I Prof. Rachel Robinson I LGBT and Homophobia in Sub-Saharan Africa

I was joined by Professor Rachel Robinson to explore what we know about LGBT and (politicised) Homophobia in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on Nigeria.

Rachel Robinson is an associate professor in the School of International Service at American University, Wasington D.C.

Her research focuses on sex-related health interventions in sub-Saharan Africa, including family planning, HIV/AIDS, and sexuality education.

She has conducted field research in Namibia, Malawi, Nigeria, and Senegal. Her research has been funded by the MacArthur Foundation, the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC), and the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Prof. Robinson teaches courses on statistics, global health, population studies, development, and NGOs. Her current research focuses on politicized homophobia and the extent of social science knowledge on NGOs.

She is the author of ‘Intimate Interventions in Global Health: Family Planning and HIV Prevention in Sub-Saharan Africa’ and has written in journals such as Demography, Journal of the International AIDS Society, Population Studies, and Population Research and Policy Review.

I am grateful and honoured to have Prof. Robinson on the podcast.
