The Othello Project, Series 2, Episode #4: Class and Power
In its second series, The Othello Project seeks to explore the themes of Othello in contemporary Britain, empowering Muslim journalists and interlocutors to tell the story of Othello through the exploration of race, class, masculinity, gender and belonging. Its goal is to bridge the gap between the production and the way it influences the way we see and understand the world today – and vice versa.
Journalist and broadcaster Remona Aly hosts.
In this fourth episode, we'll explore the theme of class and power. Aina Khan speaks to the Green Party Mayor of Sheffield to explore the idea of who has economic power and who doesn’t. Drawing comparisons to Othello's Venice, she'll ask whether people seek to defend their class and protect what they have.
We'll also hear the essay from playwright and writer Rabiah Hussain who contemplates her own class and identity after the Brexit vote.
