Episode 23:The Book of James Part 3

Show Description:

In this episode, there is a narration loosely based on James chapter 2 with an unexpected ending. Since James chapter 2 is important, I also addressed the controversies circling James's and Paul’s respective theologies. I have attempted, at some length, to explain that both men come to the same conclusion concerning faith, works, and service to Jesus Christ.

The Onesimus Collective
Update: July 27, 2024

I have endeavored to research the Book of James to determine some of the history of the book, the issues the early church had with the book, and the conflict between Paul and James concerning justification (faith and works). I am working on the research, and research takes time. This will be at least five episodes, maybe more. So, the remainder of this year will be mostly about the book of James, but, I can assure you it will be an interesting ride.

Episode 17: I'm Not Sacrificing That!

Sacrifice is usually not something we enjoy. We sacrifice time with family to work and make money. Some sacrifice their ethics and morals to make more money; some seem to sacrifice everything and still end up with nothing. God demands sacrifice from His people but sacrificing for God always benefits the believer.

This week we will hear a story about a little boy. Not a lot of detail is given, but we gather he is from the inner city and drugs and alcohol affect his life in horrible ways. For a small boy, he comes across as gritty and tough. However, he is just a little boy who needs Jesus. The Jesus of the Bible, that is, and not the Jesus of the streets.

Episode 15: Muddled Thinking

What do you think of when you hear the word “Crusades?” Do you think of knights with big red crosses across their chests or the senseless killing in the name of the Cross of Christ? By the way, except for many of those doing the fighting, the Crusades were not about the Cross of Christ. We will also talk a little about the science of soteriology, which studies the doctrine of salvation as well as the importance of the Book of Genesis in God’s plan of salvation.

Episode 13: A Conversation with John and Horace

This week, we will consider whether the Gospel of John is “the superior gospel,” or gnostic ramblings. Also, the 19th-century theologian, Horace Bushnell. Are his ideas suitable for Sunday service, or should he be classified with the transcendentalist of his day.
