Omar Conger (1984): An abalone diver, Omar Conger was killed by a great white shark off the California coast. His friend witnessed the attack, where Conger was dragged underwater and violently shaken before succumbing to his injuries
Shirley Ann Durdin (1985): In Australia's Peake Bay, Wiseman's Beach, Shirley Ann Durdin was attacked and killed by a large great white shark while diving for scallops. The attack was witnessed by her husband and four children from the shore, making it a particularly horrifying and well-documented event.
