As soon as Luka Doncic could sign his Los Angeles Lakers contract extension, he did; however, he only signed a three-year contract extension for $165 million when he could have walked away with a four-year deal worth $222.4 million. In fact, the third year of the deal he signed is a player option, which sets Doncic up to sign a significantly larger contract in 2028, which could be worth a hard-to-believe $417 million.

With LeBron James’ Lakers career beginning to wind down, this deal ultimately signals the start of the Lakers’ chase to pair Luka with another superstar.
