In this episode of My UnAesthetic Life, host Ericka explores the struggles of people-pleasing, particularly for women. She delves into how women are often socialized from a young age to be caretakers, put others needs before their own, and be passive, leading to a tendency to worry about what others think of them. Ericka shares her own personal story of struggling with people-pleasing and the detrimental effects it can have on our happiness and well-being.
She explains that the root cause of people-pleasing is often fear, fear of rejection and fear of not being worthy. But, as Ericka points out, no matter how hard we try, we can never please everyone, and it will never bring us the fulfillment, closeness, love, peace, and happiness we crave.
Ericka provides her top 4 tips for breaking free from the cycle of people-pleasing. She encourages listeners to recognize it's okay to put themselves first, practice self-care and self-esteem, learn to say no, and surround themselves with people who respect and support their boundaries and decisions.
Ericka also mentions that if you're a woman of color that struggles with people pleasing, being a perfectionist, and being overly critical of yourself, she is launching a Group Program that will teach skills around developing self-love, self-confidence, and self-mastery.
