The virus is forcing us to see how Survival of the kindest works in community.
You don’t have to agree in a community, but when you are kind or considerate things naturally align and fall into place.
Healing occurs naturally when we allow communication to open up to discovering how others live their lives. And communicating with an interest in others allows natural good will to occur. You may not like people, but communication that seeks to get to know people is the most powerful way to help community to happen naturally and build our relationships to move forward as a community - which is going to be the biggest focus on how we move beyond the pandemic.
Dacher Keltner is a researcher on our capacity for good and want good for others, including having compassion for others. His research builds on our evolutionary research that shows kindness is not just a social construct, it is part of our nature. You can find a video on his work here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8SVyHS3jZU
One of his takeaways from Darwin is that evolutionary science research shows that tribes where people are kinder to each other have more children, they survive better and the children go on to flourish and do better. So kindness and helping each other has become a natural part of the ancient mammalian brain.
