
This quote is about the fact that the anticipation of pain can be more harmful than the pain itself. Fear of fear arises because we try to suppress or avoid fear. Carl Jung said: “What you resist, persists.” But in doing so, we give suffering – or fear – all the more power. Trying not to feel afraid makes fear louder, increases suffering. In psychology there is term for it, it’s called experiential avoidance, trying not to feel, which ironically magnifies suffering.
