Newcastle United Women earned a late draw in their first league game at the Gateshead International Stadium against Sheffield United Women. Charlie Devlin opened the scoring for Sheffield United on the stroke of half-time when her long-range effort found the roof of the net to silence the crowd. An impressive volley into the bottom corner from Jasmine McQuade with five minutes left to play was enough to cancel out Charlie Devlin’s first-half strike from range.
Despite trailing for the majority of the game, Newcastle came agonisingly close to snatching all three points when Molly Pike’s cross bounced and fell to an advanced Charlotte Wardlaw, who couldn’t keep down her half volley. The result leaves Newcastle on four points from their opening two games in the WSL2.
