This episode, join He-DAN, Master Of The JESPERverse, SkeLEONtor and GwilBJORN as we take up the fight against the evil Lord Skeletor to win back Eternia in the 1987 disaster-piece MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE! Inspired by the worldwide toy phenomena and smash hit 80's cartoon series, we follow Dolph Lundgren (for better or worse) as he takes on the lofty mantle of He-Man! The forces of Snake Mountain have won. Using a device known as The Cosmic Key (the cawsmic key!!) Skeletor has overthrown Castle Grayskull and won the war that had every 80's kid on the edge of their seats every day after school. Out manoeuvred and out gunned, He-Man and his friends flee to earth where they lose The Cosmic Key (the cawsmic key!!), their only way home, and seem very confused about the whole situation. Pursued by relentless mercenaries He-Man must trust in his newfound earthling friends if he is to get back to Eternia, save Grayskull and confront Skeletor in the ultimate 80's showdown between good and evil.
With some incredible production talent, questionable adaptation choices, rad synthesisers and a wonderfully Shakespearean performance from Frank Langella as Skeletor, we delve into this problematic but charming film to dissect what made it such a divisive and critical failure for everyone involved.
