The Key of Imagination is dedicated to Rod Serling's masterpiece: The Twilight Zone. But, our podcast will be a little different than other Twilight Zone shows you might have listened to. Research has shown that experiencing awe leads to fuller, more meaningful connections with humanity; it can help push back against depression; and it can improve one's sense of well-being. I've been using the Twilight Zone in my college classrooms for over 20 years for this very purpose. We're going to look for the awe in each episode. This week, we're talking about the Twilight Zone episode "Mr. Bevis." It's the story of a man who is both cluttered in home and mind. But, when the Twilight Zone steps in to try and clean things up, Bevis is left with an important decision to make regarding his identity. Does he accept the special help he is currently receiving, or does he go back to the way things were? In this KOI episode, we're going to take a look at whether or not "Mr. Bevis" should be considered a comedy episode; we'll dive into a bit of a character analysis of Bevis himself, and see if he is portrayed as a likeable figure or not; and I'll reveal my moment of awe, which has to do with cars, emissions, and a 1924 Rickenbacker.
