Reader Series: How Kristina Quit Her Job, Traveled Europe for a Month + used P.S. You're A Genius to Find Her Next Career Move
Hear how P.S. You’re A Genius helped a reader! About Kristina Zavaleta: Growing up, Kristina’s family had a multicultural household. With her father from Peru and her mother from the States, she experienced both cultures in her upbringing - whether that was while they resided in their humble home in Georgia or during their summer stays in Lima, Peru. It's where Kristina grew a fascination for cultures and languages - now speaking English, Spanish, still learning but able to speak conversationally in French, and also able to translate classical Chinese. She received a Bachelor's in Liberal Arts with a focus on Classic Texts and the Humanities. Specifically, it was known as a Great Books Program with very small seminar style classes, designed for the students to be able to debate and discuss the coursework with fellow students and professors acting as guides and peers. It was the only Great Books Program in the world that incorporates both Eastern and Western Classics into a BA degree. Kristina has a professional background in sales, marketing, and public relations, and in the past 2 years worked primarily with marketing for nonprofits. Now, she is a writer, entrepreneur, and also a content creator for her upcoming podcast, Innate Wisdom. What we covered: How Kristina learned her top 3 - 5 most innate gifts. (+ What they are!) How she bumped into P.S. You’re a Genius in a Barnes and Noble very serendipitously in an Atlanta, Georgia! How she used the book while traveling through Italy, Spain, and Germany to find her gifts during a season of transition between quitting her full-time job and looking for the next pivot. How Kristina decided to start a podcast and an upcoming business. The mindset shifts she had during this major life transition.   Resources mentioned: My book: P.S. Genius Session: how do I start a biz when I feel inadequate?
About our anonymous guest today: She is a stay-at-home mom of two children who obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2012 and completed teachers college in 2013. She said she knew instantly this was the wrong career choice for her. As her personal and family life moved forward, she became a full-time mom and was left with little formal work experience. Over the last year, both of her children are transitioning into full-time school, and she is looking to take the next step to fulfill her career goals. What is she looking to create? Our guest is looking for a way to serve individuals (and companies, perhaps) by helping them fulfill their written, communication, and really any kind of interpersonal demands they may face in their business. In short, she can articulate just about anything. She loves to communicate with people. She is the friend that is always in the know about all things pop culture, media, fashion, and what's trending. She is super friendly and easy to get along with, and she can chat with you or give you advice about just about anything under the sun. She is extremely organized, almost to a fault. Over the years, she has become her friends and family's go-to person for organizing, writing, editing, or proofreading just about anything they are working on. She is hoping to provide a service virtually, as opposed to in-person, so she can continue to be present for her family. She is struggling to narrow down what this service would be or what it would fully entail. She wonders: “Is there an industry for this? Did I describe something that already exists, like a virtual assistant, or is there a bigger picture that I'm missing.” Questions covered in this session: 1. You spoke a lot in your book about using every bit of work experience, whether it seemed relevant to my genius or not, in a way that could be applicable. Frankly, I have little formal work experience. I'm 31 years old with a pretty empty-looking resume, and I'm not sure what to do from here or where to begin. Between finishing school in 2013 and now, I have accumulated little to no formal work experience. Now what? I'm intimidated because I feel extremely inadequate in what feels like a sea of extremely young, ambitious, over-qualified people. Where do I begin? On paper, I feel like I do not measure up.2. Sometimes I think, "my resume doesn't matter because I'm going to be my own boss," but ok doing what? I see so much focus on Instagram and social media about how women (specifically, moms) are bossing up and building their own brand, but I'm not even sure the services I excel at could be marketed at all, let alone be a brand. I feel extremely anxious to start a service of my own because I lack real experience so what would I know? And on the flip side, I am also intimidated to gain formal work experience by putting myself out there because I am older and I am embarrassed that I have so little work experience at this point in my life. I am full of hesitation and self-doubt no matter how I slice it, and I'm not sure how to overcome it.3. Do you have books, podcasts, ted talks, etc. that you can suggest by people, specifically women who may be in my situation? Are there reading materials I can take on to discover my next steps? I have poured my last 5 years into giving my children all I've got, I'm not sure there's anything left for me in the tank. If there is, where can I find it, and how can I navigate my next steps to build something from it?

Genius Session: how do I price + package my services?
About Amanda: Amanda Warner is a conflict resolution practitioner trained in both mediation and conflict coaching. Different from therapy, conflict coaching is a collaborative process between coach and coachee to discover the skills and techniques needed to handle conflicts in both personal and professional settings. Her soon-to-be-launched website offers one-on-one sessions to tackle everyday challenges with loved ones, colleagues, and friends head-on, with skillful question asking, self-reflection and resilience. What is she looking to create? She wants to help young women ages 18-30 needing help asserting themselves at work or in their personal lives. She aims to help them live a more stress-free life and improve the quality of their relationships. Questions asked in this session: Can you help me price and package my services? Your favorite tips you give to rejig things when the fish just aren't biting after launching a service like one-to-one coaching. How did you register your business? What should I name my business? I’m working on a jazzy bio. How do you get your passion/genius across in a bio? What signs do you advise people to look for to know they are ready to launch a course? What you wish you had known the month after you launched your true genius, the business coaching site. The biggest time suck running your own business and how you have expedited it.

Genius Session: I feel like I’m not "special enough" - how do I believe in myself?
About Dina: Dina Lu is a full-time calligrapher and creative business coach from Vancouver, Canada. She quit her 9-5 job in 2019 after running her calligraphy side business for a year, and since then has taught over 50 calligraphy workshops, worked on numerous calligraphy projects, and coached over 50 calligraphers in starting a business. These days, she's working hard on getting her Youtube to blow up (she currently has 1700 subscribers). What is she looking to create? In my current coaching business, I only serve calligraphers but I might expand that out to general creative businesses in 2022 as my Youtube broadens out too. For Youtube, my ideal audience is larger: people who want to start a creative business and people who struggle with confidence in pursuing their dreams. Questions covered in this session: I feel like I'm not "special" enough to get massively bigger on Youtube. I know my channel will get a little bigger each month, but I'm scared of disappointing myself if I don't get WAY bigger sooner. How do I keep going and believe in myself? I feel like I've ALWAYS been hustling and never reaching my goals really easily. I've announced that I'm pausing my group coaching program Calligraphy Business Accelerator for 6 months. Should I go 100% full out working on Youtube or still get some 1:1 business coaching clients. I feel like if I still do coaching, it's as if I don't believe fully that I can get big on Youtube. But I enjoy coaching and it would be great to still be making some income, but it does take time/energy to promote and work with clients (not fully at ease). But I wonder if I will be super stressed ONLY working on Youtube without an income? Since I made the decision to get big on Youtube, I've been spending my evenings editing videos, which helps with getting videos out on Youtube twice a week but I also feel more tired. Ideally, I don't want to work after dinner. How to find the balance between making sacrifices for something you really want vs. taking care of yourself? I think my niche for Youtube might be too big (creative business, personal development, lifestyle), but I am passionate about those things and I'm not sure how I can narrow it down or if I should narrow it down? (The program Video Ranking Academy I'm in always tells me to niche down more). I feel bad spending money on myself because I've been making less from my coaching business the past few months. How do I find the balance between an abundance mindset (spending while trusting that the money will come) vs practicality (making sure that I don't go broke)?

Trying Harder Doesn't Always Work (a chapter from P.S. You're A Genius)
In this episode, I read an excerpt from my first published book, P.S. You’re A Genius! Oh man, this is one of the biggest lessons I’ve had to learn in my life: that trying harder doesn’t always work. This chapter comes from part 4 of the book called “The New Playbook for Success.” It’s the part of the book where I break down some unconventional rules for success. (Because once you know that you’re a genius, you’ll need a new set of rules to play by). This is also one of my favorite chapters because I think the writing is really funny (while also hitting home a major point). AKA: my writing style. I hope you enjoy it!

Go For Exponential Results Over Incremental Gains (a chapter from P.S. You're A Genius)
In this episode, I read an excerpt from my first published book, P.S. You’re A Genius! This chapter is all about how most people can only make incremental gains in their life. They are stuck using addition and doing 10 + 10 = 20. Yet, genius can take that same input of 10, square it, and make 100. But how? In this excerpt from the book, I talk about it!
