Whether an armchair traveller or an intrepid globetrotter, we all love to hear stories about far-flung destinations – from people who’ve been there, done that and have the passport stamp to prove it.

The Itchy Feet Travel podcast is an interview series where journalist Joe O’Connor scratches our travel itch by chatting to a special guest about the travel experiences that have shaped their lives. During this time of uncertainty, the podcast also considers what travel means to us now and what it might look like in the future.

Join Joe O’Connor, and his guest, to be transported to foreign lands from the comfort of wherever you are.

You can be guaranteed one thing with every listen: Your bucket list will get that little bit longer!

Some say that humour knows no borders. And while there is some truth in it, my guest for this episode is witness to how comedy is both perceived and received by different people in different countries.

Karl Spain has been a staple of Irish stand-up comedy for two decades now and in that time, he has toured across the world bringing his brand of humour to all walks of life. Among the places he has done stand-up are China, the US, the Middle East, Australia and, as he says in his bio, "even as far away as England".

When we chatted, Karl was in lockdown mode at his home in Limerick. He talked about discovering his comedic side in Amsterdam, gigging in Azerbaijan, getting recognised in Beijing, suffering from altitude sickness in Tanzania and telling dirty jokes in India.

I hope you enjoy. And thanks for listening!
