(Women Series) Episode 3- The feminine in all of us- The Ardhnarishwar
All fetuses start out with identical genitalia. It is neither male nor female genitalia, but has the potential to become either.
All fetuses would develop female genitalia were this process not interrupted.
The fetus’ genes (which are determined at fertilization) determine whether or not this process is interrupted.
What interrupts this process is that around week 7 of development, in fetuses with normal XY chromosomes, gene on the Y-chromosome begins to produce testosterone. Testosterone in turn causes other changes, which end up with the fetus developing male sex organs as opposed to female sex organs.
A human being is not a pure unisexual organism. Female glands can produce female as well as male hormones and vice versa. We identify gender as sexuality . A person's gender does not define its sexual orientation and often we judge people on basis of sexual orientation. Same sex orientation is not some kind of mental retardation or pathology, it is one of the aspect of human sexuality. Scientifically, there is no outside environment influence associated with same sex orientation. It is all inherent, inside us..We all are same and are capable of identifying ourselves with a particular set of orientation, some of which are more socially acceptable.
