Laura Karpman entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe with an animation series that she scored called `what if?` , then she went onto do music for the critically acclaimed `miss marvel` last year & now here comes the coupe de resistance... shes music composer for this years magnum opus theatrical release `the marvels`. laura understands the sanctity of indian classical music as we chat about those elements she used in `miss marvel`, and she is acutely aware that `the marvels` apart from having three leading superhero ladies is directed by her `soul sista` nia dacosta. the 1st african american woman and only the fourth woman ever to direct a marvel movie! i love that laura is a fierce champion for inclusion in Hollywood & i tell her so in this podcast. After founding the `Alliance for Women Film Composers`, she became the first woman governor in the music branch of the `Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences`.but like karpman says.. theres been progress, but theres still so much to be done. happy listening!
