You may already know that yoga is a huge part of my life. As I finish my 250hr yoga teacher training this summer, I reflect on this past year and all I've learned about the value of yoga in my life. I reflect back to over 10 years ago when I was in my prenatal yoga classes within the walls of the exact studio I'm getting my certification with. How important prenatal yoga was with my pregnancy as well as Brooklyn's birth. My labor & delivery experience was definitely due to my prenatal yoga.
Today I am with Kelly Vida of Empowered Mama Fitness who teaches locally at Sage Healing Collective, Fitness on the Fox and The Endorphin Effect...but also offers online options of prenatal yoga! She has a YouTube channel that you can access on her website (www.empoweredmamafitness.com) along with monthly webinars with topics such as her July "What's Not Natural After Birth".
We talk about the physical practice and how it benefits you before AND postpartum but we also talk about the spiritual and mental practice that can help with your mental wellness when you become a mother. A quote from Naomi Annand, author of "Yoga and Motherhood", sums it up: "It (motherhood) calls upon every part of you- physical, mental, emotional, spiritual- and it's such an emotional rollercoaster: all that joy, all that exhaustion. Throughout my experience of motherhood, the thing that has kept me going is yoga." WOW.
