While Portugal was busy colonising islands off the Western African coast, Spain was emerging into its own, conquering the Canary Islands over a span of about 90 years. The second part of the episode highlights the Treaty of Alcáçovas (1479) and the Treaty of Tordesillas (1494) which split the early colonial world into two.
