Mercyful Fate are one of the most influential heavy metal bands of the early 1980s with many of the genres most recognizable bands citing King Diamond's most famous project as a direct influence for their sound and style. With 1984's Don't Break The Oath, Mercyful Fate set the tone for all of their predecessors in the thrash, speed, power, and black metal genres.
