The Healing and Peace Show with Thomas Schmierer, LMFT is where you get wise counsel based on Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and sound science.
Thomas Schmierer is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master’s in Moral Theology who is faithful to the teachings of the Roman Magisterium. He is a Benedictine oblate with a special admiration for the spirituality of Opus Dei. Thomas specializes in modifying evidence-based practices to make them consistent with the Church's teachings. With a passion for spreading Gospel truths such as those found within Pope St. John Paul II's Theology of the Body, he strives to help listeners to live out their unique vocations to love with ever greater peace, holiness, and joy. Often this includes offering practical guidance on personal and relational healing.
In some episodes, Thomas interviews great Catholic theological minds like Christopher West, Katrina Zeno, and Fr. Thomas Morrow. Other interviews are with physical “healers” like NY Times best-selling author, Joel Fuhrman, M.D. Thomas also interviews those who have undergone a process of healing and who offer sound advice on how to heal the body and soul based on their personal experience, like Maura Preszler, foundress of the Made In His Image ministry and Emily Boller, author of Starved to Obesity.
In other episodes, Thomas provides information and guidance on how to heal and find peace. Some of these episodes include a “Theology of the Body study group” where he expounds on the actual text of the audiences of St. Pope John Paul II that are collectively called the Theology of the Body. Listeners are encouraged to submit questions, not only on Theology of the Body, but on all topics related to healing and finding peace. The Healing and Peace Show is tailored to the listeners, so be sure to write a comment on one of Thomas’ social media sites to let him know what you want him to address as pertains to your own personal and relational healing.

008: Fear, Longing and Fathers—Maura Preszler
https://youtu.be/2QHfMtbb_Z8
Are you a woman who has been emotionally or physically battered by the important man or men in your life? Are you, perhaps, a father who knows that he is overly critical of his daughter, but just can’t help himself? Our guest in this episode offers direction and encouragement for women who have been mistreated by men and inspiration for fathers who need to do a better job at telling their daughters that they are lovable, just as they are.
When the important men in a girl or woman’s life are emotionally abusive, the net result can be an eating disorder. Maura Preszler, our guest, knows all about eating disorders, having experienced one herself. Maura is a graduate of Seton Hall University where she was a Division II runner and soccer player and is the founder of Made in His Image, a ministry for women recovering from eating disorders and abuse. In this episode, Maura tells about how she was diagnosed with Depression, PTSD and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and was, then advised by professionals to leave her family home in order to get the distance needed to heal through psychotherapy and Catholic spiritual practices. In addition to sharing her story of healing, in this episode Maura addresses:
What does the Made in His Image ministry do on social media? How does the expectation of how a woman should look compare between New Jersey and California? How pressures are put on women who do cross country running, gymnastics or ballet that can contribute to developing an eating disorderHow she struggled with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and what the symptoms wereWhat are the main features of BPD?How God intervened in her life and her trust in Him comforted her in fearful momentsWhat Catholic spiritual habits helped her recover from BPDHow she went to India with Varsity Catholic, a FOCUS Ministry, and worked with Mother Theresa and the Missionaries of Charity and the impact this had on the development of her spiritual habitsWhat the most effective part of the treatment that she received for BPD wasHow having a male therapist who can be a father figure can be an essential factor in the successful treatment of BPD and eating disorders like anorexia and binge eating in femalesHow we need others in order to healHow God created little girls to need their father’s affection and loveHow an abused girl or woman can have a distorted view of God the FatherWhat is the A.C.T.S. prayer structure? How talking to God like He is a friend can help one to develop a better relationship with God the FatherHow can a girl find a Made in His Image support group near her?How can a woman start her own Made in His Image support group?
