Blanche has a date get cancelled on her. She's not happy. She calsl her back up Mel Bushman but he doesn't answer? Where could he be? A freaked out Blanche goes to his home. Then once he arrives she wants a full blown relationship and he is overwhelmed. Meanwhile, Rose tries out for a reporter spot. She gets the story she was assigned but she misses a bigger one.

A poetry reading at Miles comes to an abrupt end when the death of mobster The Cheesman is announced on a news broadcast. Later, Miles breaks the news he's been in witness protection hiding from that mobster. Meanwhile, Sophia is upset at her friend Gladys over a concert. Blanche tries to return a dress she wore but they won't take it back. Miles learns that the Cheesman is not dead and has to be relocated.

Clayton comes to visit but he brings a surprise. His boyfriend Doug, who he plans to marry. Blanche does not take this news well at all. He behavior becomes embarassing. Rose is nominated for an award and goes into full on competitive mode.

Dorothy meets Jimmy on Sophia's Meals on Wheels route. He's not left his apartmen tin 22 years. Meanwhile, Rose is trying to fing out Blanche's real birthday to throw her a suprise birthday party.

Rose is having a yard sale. Blanche detests it and buys all her stuff for $50. Turns out there are 50 $1,000 St. Olaf war bonds and Blanche feels like she hit the jackpot. Only cashing out the bonds will bankrupt St. Olaf. Meanhwhile, Stan has created a baked potato opener that is actually a success. He tries to buy everyone's love without much succeess.

Rose meets her natural father (she was adopted by the Lindstroms). We all get to learn Rose's creatation story along with her. Sophia has a hernia and needs surgery. She's been telling everyone that it's because Dorothy made her move a couch (it was wicker) when the reality is she and her friends moved someone's car. She does have the surgery, but she gets lost in the hospital too.

Becky is in town. Blanche's daughter is now very pregnant from IVF and close to her due date.
