Ep# 44 The Final Ascent: Deaths on Everest and The Dyatlov Pass Part 1

Winter is upon us in the Northern Hemisphere! As the long dark descends, join The Goblin Squad in a riveting (and slightly horrifying) two-part episode on the perils of cold weather exploration. It’s finally time, gobs. Mount Everest. It’s happening.

In part one of this week’s episode, we talk about one of the most fascinating and disturbing truths about the great mountain…what happens if you don’t survive your attempt to summit. Keep in mind, gobs, these were real people in real events, and even though we are able to laugh throughout this episode, we mean absolutely no disrespect towards the deceased or their surviving family members. Mountaineers are the most hardcore of the summiting world and Mount Everest will prove to you that she is still in charge after you listen to this episode.

We discuss the winding tale of three individuals connected by an unexpected thread after they pass away on the mountain. While you listen, raise a glass in toast to those that have become famous after they perished while trying to reach the top of the world.

This episode is available in both audio and video format! Woohoo! But don’t forget to join us for Part 2 covering another harrowing and mysterious occurrence in the harsh climates of the North, The Dyatlov Pass Mystery. Please help us out by rating and reviewing this podcast and subscribing on all platforms. We continue to create because of you, Gobs! Also, special shout out to Brooke (because she can’t stop me from writing this, since I’m in charge of the show notes) who has done all of the work editing this podcast. She is amazing and never gives herself enough credit for her fantastic skills. Shower her with love and affection because she is a Goblin Queen.

Episode Resources:

There are TOO MANY Everest resources to list…however, if you would like to begin your journey, especially pertaining to the story around Mark Inglis and David Sharp, we recommend this short doc: Everest Left for Dead: The David Sharp Story
