Episode 10: Remembering Route 196 with Ren Aguila and Monika Schoop

The farewell gig of Route 196 was many things—a celebration, a goodbye, even a sacrament. It had the power to be many things because many people were telling its story and remembering its legacy in different ways. We spoke to writer Ren Aguila and ethnomusicologist Monika Schoop about a paper they're working on, which explores how—through the farewell gig— people participated in the mythmaking and canonization of Route 196. It's the season 1 finale, baby, and it's our most academic one yet. Paul Ricœur comes up a lot.
