On the sixth episode of The Gide Foundation Podcast host Adam Goodman is joined by Gide Foundation Mental Health Team Lead, Moses Farrow and licensed clinical social worker, JaeHee Chung-Sherman. JaeHee has worked for many years in the mental health field with specializations of child welfare ranging from foster care, adoption, mental health, trauma-informed care, and administration. On this episode we discussed the broad topics of how the dominant mode of thinking about attachment in the mental health field has a very large blind spot around adoption, and how that harms adoptees. We also delve into the importance of doing the work to build our own "table" rather than waiting or being satisfied with having a seat at other people's tables. Perhaps most importantly we also offer some advice on how to find an adoption competent therapist.
