Nowhere in Scripture are we told to have human mentors to guide us through the devil’s world. Your mentor is God the Holy Spirit. You need to learn the mechanics of the spiritual life and the iron for this to happen is a well-qualified pastor plus the filling of the Holy Spirit, not a fellow Christian. Our Lord prophesied the mentorship of the Holy Spirit in John 14:16-17, “I will ask the Father and He will give you another Helper that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see Him or know Him; but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.” The Holy Spirit, your mentor, will sharpen you with Scripture through a well-qualified pastor.
