Evil represents the genius of Satan in relation to the human race. Satan is trying to replace God’s plan of grace. If you link anything to grace it cancels out grace. Evil can be a system or a deed. “The tongue can no man tame. It is unruly and evil, full of deadly poison” (James 3:8). All sin is evil but all evil is not necessarily a sin. The mentality of the soul is the battleground. If Satan can influence your thoughts, he can control you. Recovering from the evil of human viewpoint thinking and the distortion of God’s Word in your soul takes consistent studying, learning, growing, and applying the Word of God. the Bible warns us not to be influenced by evil. “Beloved, do not be imitators of the evil, but of the good” (3 John 1:11). You need to be able to recognize evil and this takes advancing to spiritual maturity.
