In this third episode of The Flip Chronicles, I talk with martial arts fight choreographer/action director Sonny Sison via Manila in this long chat about Filipino Martial Arts, known as FMA. It’s not a very well known form of fighting arts from Asia, but it’s slowly getting the notice of Hollywood from notable fight scenes you’d see in “The Bourne Identity”, “The Hunted” and “Book of Eli” to name a few. Sonny Sison got his start on-camera as a Power Ranger, and a bevy of roles in many of Hollywoods best action films. And if you’re into mango shakes, he’s your guy. Being one of they main players today in the preservation of FMA, he talks about how he handles realistic fight scenes in the projects under his belt of over thirty years. He did the action direction for “Buy Bust” a major action hit to come out of the Philippines recently and is contributing his skills for an upcoming HBO Asia action series. Music for this episode, “Sigaw” by Nino Alejandro available on Spotify and Apple Music.
