- You can now text 9-1-1!
- "Telephone is the fastest way to reach 9-1-1, but in those circumstances where it is not an option, law enforcement agencies, including Chula Vista Police, are now able to receive 9-1-1 text messages.
- "Text only if you are deaf, hard of hearing, non-verbal or having difficulty speaking; are in a situation where it’s not safe to call 9-1-1; or you’re having a medical emergency and cannot speak on the phone.
- "Here is how it works: text 9-1-1 in the “To” field, give the location and nature of your emergency, respond to Dispatcher questions and follow instructions. Do not include emojis, abbreviations or acronyms. Photos or video cannot be sent and the text cannot include other people.
- "Currently, the service is available only in English. Remember, call if you can, text only if you cannot."
The City of San Diego has the following hotlines if you or someone you know may be experiencing domestic violence:
- Center for Community Solutions at (888) 385-4657
- The YWCA's Battered Women's Services at (619) 239-2341,
- San Diego County Domestic Violence 24 hour hotline at 1-888-DVLINKS.
All services are 24-hour hotlines that are staffed with persons who can evaluate situations and make referrals for counseling, legal assistance, shelters, support groups, etc. (https://www.sandiego.gov/police/services/prevention/victimresources/domesticviolence)
