22. The One Where You Take Care Of Everyone But Yourself
If you’re really good at giving, but struggle to take time for yourself, you’re at risk for Caregiver or Compassion Fatigue. Whether you’re a parent, caring for a friend or family member, or part of a helping profession like teaching or healthcare, learning to balance giving and taking is essential for preventing burnout and managing your energy.

This episode, I’m joined by Amanda Rocheleau, a Registered Social Worker and Compassion Fatigue Specialist. She shares the moment, while reading a book to her three young kids, that she realized she was burned out from overgiving. Amanda shares practical strategies to help you keep giving, while also taking care of your own needs.

Key takeaways:

  • If you want to be a helper, you have to learn how to take
  • The beliefs and mindset that make women more prone to overgiving and putting their own needs on the backburner
  • How to create micro-moments of rest in your day when your schedule is packed and there’s no relief in sight
Amanda Rocheleau is a Registered Social Worker and Compassion Fatigue Specialist based in Ottawa, Ontario. With nearly 20 years of experience in the field and Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Work from Carleton University, Amanda has developed a deep understanding of the challenges faced by helping professionals within healthcare, social services, education, and public service settings.

As the founder of her own private practice, Amanda offers counselling and consulting services to support individuals and organizations in reducing the risk for psychological injuries and burnout. Her practical delivery approach has been well-received by over 600 professional andconference groups across Canada, where she has been featured as a speaker and trainer on positive workplace practices and personal well-being.

Amanda has created workshops, online courses, workbooks, and a podcast called The Giving Tree, all specifically designed to help individuals and organizations build resilience, preventburnout, and promote well-being.
