Content Warning: Animal on Animal Violence
In this episode, Geoff and Katrina welcome the new year by retelling tales of slapstick violence and murder. In ATU 210, a bunch of random objects team up to create an ending with a domino effect of violence. But it's FUN! Katrina starts off by telling a Brother's Grimm version of this story called Riff Raff or A Pack of Ragamuffins. Reading this short story in the German collection might feel random and weird but it is part of a story tradition where the listener knew what kind of tale was being set up. Geoff then tells another tale from the Brother's Grimm following this pattern before Katrina takes us all the way to Japan. And now that the audience knows where the story is going, we demonstrate how this story can be mixed and matched to bring pleasure even when it reaches its familiar conclusion.
