In today's episode, I have the honour to talk to president Egils Levits. Only to mention a few highlights of his career, president Levits was Judge at the European Court of Human Rights from 1995 to 2004, Judge at the European Court of Justice from 2004 to 2019 and President of the Republic of Latvia from 2019 to 2023. In this final episode of the first season of “The energy law podcast” we are zooming out again from the in-depth discussions of different parts of energy law, talking about the geopolitical changes after Russia`s invasion of Ukraine that also effected global and European energy markets. With President Levits, I am going to discuss the role of courts in transitions, also exploring the concept of judicial activism. Please enjoy this episode!

The interview took place on 1 June 2024.

TELP#007: Zohra Boumedhel, EPEX Spot, and Denny Wientzek, European Energy Exchange AG
In today's episode, I am happy to welcome Zohra Boumedhel from EPEX Spot and Denny Wientzek from the European Energy Exchange AG. We are going to discuss the overlap of energy law and financial markets regulation. Energy law governs various aspects of energy production, distribution, and consumption, while financial markets regulation ensures transparency, stability, and fairness in financial transactions. Understanding this overlap is essential for policymakers, industry professionals, and investors alike to navigate the evolving energy landscape and foster sustainable and efficient energy markets. Let`s see what my two guests have to say about it.

The interview took place on 4 March 2024.
