Back with another sparklingly dull episode the team are becoming obsessed with winning “fact of the episode”.
To this end, producer and presenter Dave Harries, brings his toolbox to the studio to discuss the merits of tool storage in all its forms. Top 800 comedian Demitris Deech is mulling over facts about traffic cones, and Faye Hatcher, celebrant, artist and media darling, is frustrated by owner’s manuals, especially when she wants to inflate her tyres.
But who will win “fact of the episode”? Can anyone claim the crown from Deech?
After their summer recess, the team return with a brand new edition of The Dull Man's Podcast, featuring Demitris Deech and his 7 step sandwich creation guide (and a history of this venerable snack). Faye Hatcher considers the annoyance and background of the humble parking meter and Dave Harries flies in his very own drone and insists on telling us all about them and why they are now so ubiquitous.
Whilst The Dull Man's Podcast team (of Demitris Deech, Faye Hatcher and Dave Harries) take a break, we have put together a compilation episode of the 3 pilot episodes we did back in 2024.
Back then we discussed cuff-links, the moon landings, how to align wheelie-bins, mistakes in films, Jamie Oliver's Air Fryer revelation, the dullest documentary ever (BBC 4's All Aboard The Country Bus) - and lots of other dull things - all of which are interesting and funny
...and if that's not enough for you, Faye also examines Ben Shepherd's fascination with a 12 inch penis which was doing the rounds.
We are literally - on a break - for fans of the sitcom Friends.
In this lovely new episode Dave Harries explores the importance of Bees to the world around us, Demitris Deech wants to look at the sitcom Friends, still popular 20 years after it finished and Faye Hatcher has stumbled across something called a Sleep Divorce and tries to persuade us what a good idea it is.
In this episode, Demitris Deech "brings the noise" as he tells us all about the sirens used by emergency vehicles and all the names those various sounds have, and when they're used.
Faye Hatcher is getting a bit wound up about Sports Trailers on the radio and how cliched and repetitive they can be. Dave Harries, meanwhile, is thinking about summer holidays, and our love affair with budget airlines to get us to the sun, sea and sand quickly and cheaply.
In another fabulous episode, we find out from in-house comedian, Demitris Deech, how the need to fund a Pony Roller started the world's most celebrated tennis tournament. Faye Hatcher is on the hunt for a new patron for The Dull Man's Podcast, following it's arrival at "cult" status, and she thinks she's found the perfect candidate off the telly. Meanwhile Dave Harries is addicted to Glastonbury and has become very dull about the history of music festivals. But can you guess where the biggest music festival in the world is held? Dave reveals all in episode 28 of The Dull Man's Podcast.
In this artistic episode, our resident painter Faye Hatcher, explains her Water Colour conundrum and why acrylic paints have less pretentious names.
Demitris Deech, who always remembers the date he got married, tells us about anniversary presents and why they were mostly made up by a bunch of American jewellers.
Meanwhile Dave, who loves a glass of milk, has been investigating the world of Dairy Cows and the enormous amount of milk and cheese they produce every year using techniques and practices that some consider controversial.
Find out what the Dull Man’s Podcast team think (and drink) in this great episode.
In this episode, Faye Hatcher brings in a surprise guest with a touch of international fame! But what is it? Deech and Dave have to try and figure it out.
Deech, on the other hand, is convinced he has the answers when it comes to vehicle MOT's, (the UK's road-worthiness test) but mostly it's about the fact that they used to be a lot cheaper (and do you know what MOT stands for?)
Meanwhile Dave is getting dull about airports and has some great facts and figures to hand. Do you think Heathrow is the busiest airport in the world? Spoiler alert - not even top 3 - Dave has all the answers.
Forced by a lack of electricity to re-locate from the normal podcast studio, the gang end-up recording at Faye's dining room table this week.
Here, Deech tells us about a Crimean War nurse who is a genuine, bonafide heroine, but she is not called Florence!
Faye bemoans the existence of cricket which she finds irretrievably dull.
Dave, on the other hand, is esconced in the visual arts, as he insists on telling us about the origins of the Art Gallery and pontificates about contemporary art at the same time.
In this episode, author Sarah Steele bemoans her hatred of lane merging behaviour on our roads, comedian Demitris Deech describes the humble Clapperboard in too much detail and producer, Dave Harries is getting nostalgic about musical theatre plus listener, Glynnis from Solihull is back with some piano accordion wisdom.
In this fabulous new episode, Sarah Steel shares her loathing of hoovering (or is it vacuuming?) Demitris Deech tells us about the frankly incredible Bertha Benz and the first ever motorised road-trip she went on in 1888 with her kids, and Dave Harries wants to share his knowledge of the mattress and it's soporific history. And as a bonus, we also find out that Avocados are not really vegan!
In this fabulous episode, Demitris Deech puts together his DIY flatpack of facts as he explores the history of the humble screw. Faye Hatcher, meanwhile, is very fed up of "To Do" lists especially the ones her husband insists on reading to her over breakfast. But Dave Harries knows the meaning of life is 42 because he is a huge fan of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy creator, Douglas Adams and is telling us all about him and his influence on science fiction humour.
The clocks have gone forward for BST but why? Dave explores the dull history of daylight saving. Faye is a first-time tax returner this year and it is not making her happy. Deech, though, has a sure-fire way to eat a chicken Korma correctly and it's a 6-point plan. Another hot and spicy episode from the team that brought you.... erm... previous episodes!
In this episode, Demitris Deech celebrates the wartime efforts of the little known Women's Timber Corp, Faye gets annoyed with On-line drop-down menus and Dave tackles the controversy surrounding the author of his favourite cartoon character, Tintin.
In this episode we hear from novelist Sarah Steele about her belief in pavement etiquette and her annoyance at those that ignore it. Comedian, Demitris Deech has been researching the humble zipper, it's history and importance in modern life. Meanwhile, producer, Dave Harries has been designing and building a raised-bed and is determined that we should all care as much as he does about his garden.
Jelly Babies are older than you think and they'll scream under very specific circumstances! Comedian, Demitris Deech gives us the low-down. Novelist, Sarah Steele, on the other hand, is getting stuck in her understairs cupboard as she tries to itemise the years worth of junk she seems to have thrown in there. Producer Dave Harries tries to control the conversation and brings his love of splitting logs to the table. A very popular pass-time which has spawned the "lumbersexual" - a sign of the cultural times in which we live?
In the second episode of season 2, Faye Hatcher gets worked up about the drawbacks of the colour beige on a work rota. Sarah Steele says, no more selfies and Demitris Deech wants us to check more facts, not less Mr Zuckerberg!
Dave Harries attempts to keep order in the ensuing chaos, but it's an uphill task.
In this first episode of season two, author, Sarah Steele and broadcaster, Faye Hatcher join comedian Demitris Deech to wonder anew at the extraordinary ordinary. It's all held in some sort of check by host, Dave Harries.
The show also features a very special guest invented a very important smell!
Other topics in this episode include old fashioned gas fires, the terrible ordeal of replacing your mobile and charging an electric car whilst suffering from range anxiety.
It's another jam-packed episode, so listen now!
In this final episode of season 1, comedian Demitris Deech single-handedly destroys the English language but also talks in too much detail about the scouting movement. Author Sarah Steele is quite annoyed that she is too short to see the band at gigs and producer and ex BBC time-server, Dave Harries is on a Duolingo streak and can't get off. It's a fab episode, so listen now!
For our final episode of 2024 we welcome author Sarah Steele back to the studio to tell us about her annoyance at bad parking. Stand-Up comedian Demitris Deech knows far too much about the history of vending machnes and ex BBC man Dave Harries is stuck in the middle aisle of Aldi (or is it Lidl?) and is very excited because when it's gone it's gone.
