In this episode we are introduced to Ganoes Paran, twice.  He’s a pawn in the imperial power structure.  He’s sent out to find Sorry, who is a pawn of the gods.  Or at least some high level baddies.  We’re also introduced to history.  A whole lot of history.  We’ll help you get through it in this 2 and a half hour introduction to Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson, the first book in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series.
Predictions: 

Laseen wants to squash all magic that is not under her control.  This appears to be a major goal of hers. 
This “Soldier in the Clanking Armor” is WhiskeyJack.  
Ganoes father has some serious secrets that we don’t know yet.  
Laseen doesn’t survive this series.
Sorry’s goal is not to assassinate Laseen.  Thats just a bonus.
Gamet is a spy 
Ammanas and Cotillion are the old emperor and first sword.
Burn is a slumbering god.
