Hello and welcome to our podcast, The Doula & The Doc hosted by Vanessa Salerno, a birth and postpartum doula, as well as Dr. Joseph Sgroi, an obstetrician gynaecologist and fertility specialist. Together we'll be discussing a range of topics from pre-conception, pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. Together we combine holistic insights and medical expertise as we dive into women's and men's health with honest information and sometimes unexpected conversations. This podcast is where evidence meets experience so let's start the conversation.

Dr Joseph Sgroi is a qualified private obstetrician, gynaecologist and IVF fertility specialist in East Melbourne. Dr Joseph and his team provide holistic medical care to support women’s health and wellbeing during pregnancy, childbirth, fertility and women’s health.

Vanessa is a modern day birth and postpartum doula who, alongside Joe, creates a more innovative approach to obstetric care for women, men, and families.

Pelvic Floor Power: Strengthen Without the Shame

This week on The Doula and The Doc, we’re bringing the pelvic floor out of the shadows and into the spotlight—with zero shame and plenty of laughs.

Joining Vanessa and Dr. Joe is the fabulous Laura Scott, a pelvic floor specialist who's on a mission to help you understand, strengthen, and take ownership of your body from the inside out.

We chat about why pelvic floor health really matters—from incontinence and prolapse to postpartum recovery and beyond. Dr. Joe breaks down the difference between pelvic physio and when surgery might be on the cards, while Laura shares simple, powerful ways to reconnect with your core without fear or embarrassment.

Plus, your listener questions answered! Think:

💪 What exercises actually work?

🧠 What’s normal vs. when to get help?

🍼 Can I ever jump on a trampoline again?

This episode is real, informative, and maybe even a little bit liberating. Get ready to laugh, learn, and feel more connected to your body than ever before.
