Rising Directors on the Fear of Feature Filmmaking | DGC Visionaries Panel

On this episode, Director Zach Lipovsky (Freaks, Kim Possible) is joined by a panel of five emerging filmmakers whose latest feature films played at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival. The panel includes Kelly Fyffe-Marshall, director of When Morning Comes; Sophie Jarvis, director of Until Branches Bend; Ashley McKenzie, director of Queens of the Qing Dynasty; Gail Maurice, director of Rosie; and Anthony Shim, director of Riceboy Sleeps and recipient of the 2022 Jean-Marc Vallée DGC Discovery Award.

Their discussion tackles the fear that comes with embarking on a large creative endeavor, as well as the writing process, tonal development and aesthetic choices that went into creating their films.

This conversation was recorded live at a DGC Visionaries event in Toronto during TIFF 2022.

The DGC Podcast is produced by the Directors Guild of Canada National Directors Division and hosted by filmmakers Aubrey Arnason and Katia Café-Fébrissy.
