#4 w/t Richard Mabaso (Imbumba Foundation) | Social Innovation, Community Development & All Things Imbumba
A social entrepreneur hailing from Nelspruit, who went to France, the US and Canada doing hospitality work, before doing Development Studies at the University of Zululand and Social Entrepreneurship at GIBS later on.
While "Imagining social innovations that create a platform for government, private sector and communities to work together", the founder and CEO of Imbumba Foundation had always been working with communities in social entrepreneurship since his teen years. Established almost 10 years ago, the Imbumba Foundation has initiatives such as Trek4Mandela, Caring 4Girls, Vision20/20 and Trek100.
When he started out, it was estimated that in South Africa, over 2 million girls between the ages of 12 and 18 were in disadvantaged communities, without basic sanitary towels, leading them to even miss school some days. This is what he set out to change after seeing his niece going through similar challenges. In just 2 years, he managed to raise over 130 000 sanitary towels that reached close to 10 000 girls under the Caring 4 Girls initiative...
On part 1 of the conversation, we sit down with CEO & Founder of Imbumba Foundation, Mr Richard Mabaso to discuss his Background, Inception, Purpose and social impact
