Combatting the knife crime epidemic

The first series of The Diff spotlights charities and not-for-profits working on the front line of the knife crime epidemic.

Patrick Green, chief executive of the Ben Kinsella Trust, and Nathaniel Peat, founder of The Safety Box CIC, discuss the complicated context of knife crime and youth violence in the UK.

Youth Charity StreetDoctors demonstrate how they teach young people the first aid skills to save the life of a victim of street violence, and chief executive Lucie Russell talks about empowering people to become part of the solution.

And Esther Baker and the Synergy Theatre Project explain how unleashing creativity and the dramatic arts can facilitate the long-term rehabilitation of offenders and ex-offenders.

With a 75 per cent increase in knife crime in England and Wales between 2013 and 2022, and more than 50,000 offences involving a knife or sharp instrument in the past 18 months,

Rhianna hears practical advice, ideas for long-term and meaningful change, and stories of hope in the face of a seemingly insurmountable challenge.
