Rob and Vinnie argue that the passage describes the coming of a king to a city. They suggest that Paul encourages the Thessalonians with respect to those in the community who had died by assuring them that they had not missed the Second Coming of Christ, but instead, those who died will be the first to meet Christ in the air in order to escort Him into the city.
