This video draws on excerpts from "PASCAGOULA THE CLOSEST ENCOUNTER MY STORY" by Calvin Parker to share his personal account of the famous Pascagoula UFO incident.
On October 11, 1973, Calvin Parker and his friend Charles Hickson were fishing on the Pascagoula River in Mississippi when they had an extraordinary encounter. Parker recounts seeing a blue hazy light that turned into a bright oval-shaped craft, about eight feet high and fairly long, shaped like a football, hovering a couple of feet off the ground. An opening appeared, and three grey-colored, wrinkled-skin creatures, described as short and stocky, floated out. These beings had pincer-like hands and initially, Parker saw no facial features, although Hickson later described a point for a nose and ear-like features. Two creatures took hold of Hickson, while a third grabbed Parker's left arm. Parker felt instantly relaxed, like a shot of air, and felt weightless, floating towards the craft. Hickson felt pain and became helpless.
Inside the craft, which was very bright despite no visible lights, Parker was taken to a room and laid on something like a table. He observed a blue clicking box and something from the wall circling his body. He also saw a smaller, more human-like being with big brown eyes that made him feel safe. He heard "don't be afraid," which he understood non-verbally. After being returned to the riverbank, feeling weak, he saw the craft ascend with a "zipping" noise. They discovered a shattered window on their car and had trouble starting it.
Immediately after the event, they decided to tell someone, first calling Keesler Air Force Base, who referred them to local authorities, and then the Sheriff's Department. They were questioned separately. Unbeknownst to them, their private conversation while left alone was secretly recorded. This recording, known as "The Secret Tape," captured their genuine terror and confusion, which Sheriff Fred Diamond later stated convinced him they were telling the truth.
The case gained immediate and widespread media attention. Prominent UFO researchers Dr J Allen Hynek and Dr James Harder arrived quickly and interviewed Parker and Hickson, publicly stating that they believed the men were telling the truth and were not unbalanced. Parker and Hickson were also examined at Singing River Hospital and tested for radiation exposure at Keesler Air Force Base, with negative results.
Calvin Parker describes the Pascagoula encounter and the subsequent publicity as having a profound and difficult effect on his life. He struggled with the lack of privacy and the stress, experiencing a nervous breakdown and hospitalization shortly after the event. Unlike Charles Hickson, who was more open about the experience, Parker largely avoided the public eye for many years.
In 1993, Parker experienced a period of missing time while fishing and later underwent regressive hypnosis with researcher Budd Hopkins. Under hypnosis, he recalled the 1973 event with new, disturbing details, including being strapped down, subjected to procedures such as a finger in his nose, lip pulled, a cut on his hand, and something injected, feeling his blood was changed, seeing other faces watching, and a struggle with a female creature. The hypnosis also revealed potential earlier encounters dating back to his childhood.
The book also mentions other potential UFO sightings around the same time in the Pascagoula area, including those reported by Larry Booth, "Evan", former US Navy officer Mike Cataldo, and an Unidentified Submersible Object sighting reported by fishermen and the Coast Guard. Parker notes that his own mother and father-in-law also had strange sightings at different times.
