Field recordings and interviews from the Philippine and Asian fringe. Hosted by award-winning Manila-based journalist Karl R. De Mesa. My cultural dead drop for everyone who's overwhelmed by online interactions and the cold curation of machine algorithms. Artifacts of creativity for others to find and be inspired by, in a global milieu where genuine surprise is at a premium. Rarely happens anymore. Like the music tape exchange of yore, a thumb drive of journals left anonymously, a box full of mystery books. Unexpected. Welcome. Nonfiction. Get ready for a surprise.

Serpent Medicine | DR KITTS SARTE of Doctors Without Borders

MARIA Christina Sarte, known as DOCTOR KITTS, is a Cebuana who's worked with Doctors without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres) for 13 years Now. Her medical missions have taken her all over the world, to crises and conflict areas like Afghanistan and South Sudan.

WHILE she graduated as a pediatrician from the Philippines, she now specializes in snakebites and just finished an MSF project in Ethiopia, where snakebites and diseases like kala azar, a chronic and potentially fatal parasitic disease also known as the "black fever," are endemic.

IN this episode of The Dead Drop Dr Kitts talked about her continuing passion for international humanitarian work, participating in anti-venom research, and how she's dealt with the high stress of the often conflict heavy environments she's had to function in--often in very Pinoy ways.
