
Burundi-born Arielle Kayabaga is the first black woman in the city to be elected to the office. Arielle’s family left her home country in the midst of civil war and arrived in Canada at the age of 10. At 18 years old, she became a teen mom. At 20 She became a single mom. At age 28 she became the city councilor for Ward 13 in the municipality of London ON.
