Real Talk: Oil and Gas Finance Expert Michael Tanner
In this episode of The Crude Truth, host Rey Treviño III sits down with oil and gas finance expert Michael Tanner to break down the recent turbulence in global oil markets. From U.S. airstrikes and geopolitical risks to weekend market timing and exaggerated $100 oil forecasts - this conversation uncovers the facts behind the headlines. Michael dives into the economics of drilling, the true state of U.S. production, and why predictions of skyrocketing prices might not hold up. Whether you're in oil and gas or just trying to make sense of what’s happening at the pump, this episode delivers clarity with no fluff. When examining well economics, we consider data from offsetting wells, the entire region, and then extend our analysis to global markets. We are seeing that profitability can still be a factor at lower oil prices, as cost-cutting and geological considerations play a role in our decisions. Conventional plays have become increasingly critical to the United States' energy security, as the price is expected to remain stable in the $65 to $70 range and above for the foreseeable future. However, long-term economics indicate that the global market requires trillions of dollars to meet standard decline curves, and budgeting for capital expenditure (capex) spending needs to be done from a conservative perspective. There is also a major downshift from "peak oil" discussions, with renewable projects running into financial headwinds. Connect with Michael Tanner at LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaeltannersandstone/Check out The Crude Truth Substack here: https://crudetruth.substack.com/Don’t miss Tanner’s 30-day oil forecast and insights on why America’s production is keeping prices grounded.Watch now at www.TheCrudeTruth.comReal talk. The Crude Truth
The Crude Truth Ep 134 Dr. Dawn Buckingham
What happens when surface rights clash with mineral rights? Could Texas lead the nation in rare earth mineral production? And how do you plan for a state’s needs 200 years ahead? In this episode of The Crude Truth, host Rey Treviño III sits down with Dr. Dawn Buckingham, Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office, for a deep dive into the future of Texas.Rey and Dawn discuss the Land Office’s critical role in state administration, the growing water crisis in West Texas, and the controversial proposal to repurpose produced water. The Land Commission has been a crucial part of the state of Texas since 1836. Not only protecting our great history, but also that many people do not understand that the Land Office is responsible for the Texas coastline and storm damage like Hurricane Harvey, and even the shipping channel to keep the energy exports moving. The structure of the Land Office is a huge benefit in that it owns the oil and gas instead of the federal government, as in other states. That revenue is used in Texas to enhance education and improve Texans' lives. One fun thing Dawn gets to do is claim islands in the Gulf of America from Cartels and make Texas bigger and safer. That directly aligns with her "just fix it now" mindset. The water produced by oil and gas can either be treated, put back into the ground, or shipped off after being separated from the oil. Dr. Buckingham makes the vital point that water may become a commodity and even more valuable than oil. This is huge, and the positive work for Texas to protect water and the environment is critical for future Texans.Another huge nugget is the critical or rare earth minerals, and her attitude of protecting Texas. We have large essential minerals of the state, and they are looking at how to get those to market. It is not the minerals; it is the processing. Over 90% of global processing for critical minerals is in China, and she was not relinquishing control to China. They have taken steps to move this forward and keep China at bay.About Dr. Dawn Buckingham: Dawn is an American physician and politician who has served as the Land Commissioner of Texas since 2023. She was elected in November 2022 and sworn in on January 10, 2023. A member of the Republican Party, she served as a state Senator from 2017 to 2023Don’t miss this eye-opening conversation about land, water, energy, and the bold vision shaping Texas's future.Thank you, Dr. Buckingham, for stopping by the Crude Truth podcast, and hope we can have a follow-up interview. The Crude Truth
The Crude Truth Ep 133 Kathleen Martinez
In this episode of The Crude Truth, Rey Treviño sits down with immigration attorney and social media voice Kathleen Martinez to talk about what’s really happening with immigration in the U.S. Child and human trafficking is a horrific problem, and this has only been exemplified by the Biden Administration, funded by corruption in USAID to NGOs and the border invasion. This is a giant story you won’t hear in the mainstream media, but we will tackle it here on The Crude Truth. One of the most significant parts of the story is the term undocumented vs illegal. I did not even think about how this came about or its implications. An undocumented person can be a person who entered the country legally, but their student or work visa ran out. If you entered over the border without a legal visa, you have committed a crime and are an illegal alien. It seems that the Democrats were trying to lump both illegal and undocumented into the same category to gain new voters. We are looking forward to the upcoming Supreme Court case around birthright citizenship for illegal aliens. This will have a huge impact, and will help close the border.* The difference between being undocumented and coming here illegally* Why it’s so difficult to immigrate the “right” way* The human side of the immigration debate that often gets lost in politicsKathleen shares what she sees every day as a lawyer stories of families trying to stay together, people just wanting to work, and a system that often feels impossible to navigate.Whether you’re familiar with immigration policy or just curious, this episode offers an honest look at the challenges real people are facing.

The Crude Truth Ep 132 Jessica Rule and Maddie Walker
In this dynamic episode of The Crude Truth, host Rey Treviño III interviews two outstanding West Texas marketing professionals, Jessica Rule, President, and Maddie Walker of SHK Advertising to explore how authentic, data-driven advertising is reshaping how oil and gas companies connect with customers. The Oil and Gas industry does not always understand the best way to market its services. You have to be intentional, memorable, consistent, and have brand recognition. The next sale could be your biggest; without great marketing, it could go to your competition.Jessica and Maddie share how SHK Advertising helps West Texas businesses stand out through smart branding, SEO, and digital strategy, all built on a deep understanding of the oil and gas industry. Consistency does not mean doing the same thing if it is not working, but regular, great messaging to new prospective customers. The oil field has changed, and your marketing can no longer rely on word of mouth. Billboards even have to be created within a brand-specific messaging scheme.Whether you're a startup or a seasoned operator, this episode is packed with real talk, smart strategy, and plenty of West Texas pride.Thank you, Jessica and Maddie, for stopping by The Crude Truth podcast. The Crude Truth
The Crude Truth Ep 131 Sarah Falen Tate and Dr. Ed Ireland
In this episode of The Crude Truth, host Rey Treviño III sits down for an insightful interview with economic genius Dr. Ed Ireland and Sarah Falen Tate. Together, they break down the major shifts in America’s economy, energy policy, and agriculture. We are seeing the trade deals moving forward, and the stock market is reacting positively. President Trump has huge trade wins with Saudi Arabia and is off to other Middle Eastern countries for more trade talks. The stabilization in Syria is enormous, which will play a role in the global stabilization of trade. There is a major misunderstanding of the tariffs' impact. Are they good, bad, or who are they impacting?* What does the end of 50 years of NEPA regulations mean? Advising the President as a job description does not mean writing horrible regulations.* How are tariffs impacting U.S. commodities and ranchers?* Is deregulation helping or hurting the energy sector?* Who really owns underground CO₂ storage rights?* Why is now a turning point for oil, gas, and agriculture? All of my guests' points are critical to the entire United States agriculture and oil markets. Not only is agriculture one of the biggest users of diesel and fertilizer made from natural gas, but it is also becoming more available in international trade deals. Things are changing in the world, and the United States' oil, gas, and agriculture markets are at the forefront of these critical changes.Whether you're in oil & gas, farming, or just trying to understand what’s really going on with the economy this episode delivers real talk with real experts.Don't miss the insights from two industry leaders helping shape the future of American energy.A special thank you to Sarah and Ed for stopping by my podcast.
