Ego constantly generates feelings of lacking and wanting. The ego's pursuit of achieving various goals arises from its inherent belief that something is always lacking. The characteristics of the ego's lack are existential and then fueled by the world through the systems surrounding us, such as education and society, that something is always lacking within ourselves and that we must achieve to fill that void of lacking and wanting. Hence we run behind materialism and take a tremendous amount of worldly pressures focused on lacking and wanting!
Let me clarify that I'm not suggesting that striving to achieve this or that and making your life better with possessions is not worthwhile. I want to make that clear. It is an integral part of your outer purpose for most people - a means to address their feelings of lacking and wanting. But the outer purpose is inherently unstable and temporary.
This doesn't mean that you shouldn't be engaged in achieving and acquiring worthy goals, even though they can be driven by feelings of lacking and wanting. It means you should connect them to your inner being so that a more profound meaning flows into what you do on an outer level from your inner being, helping to counterbalance the sense of lacking and wanting. Running behind materialism on the outer level, driven by a sense of lacking and wanting, will destroy you.
Remember, what the world gives you can be taken away by the world at any time, reinforcing that sense of lacking and wanting. So you live in this desperate thought that the world will not recognize you if you don't achieve continuously, intensifying your sense of lacking and wanting. This thought is known as FEAR, which often stems from feelings of lacking and wanting. Remember, this is an egoic illusion driven by a sense of lacking and wanting. The ego and the world have implanted this illusion in us to further our feelings of lacking and wanting.
The dysfunctional thought of inner lack lies at the root of fear and anxieties of lacking and wanting. It manifests itself in several ways, perpetuating feelings of lacking and wanting. For example,
We always want to look and feel perfect as a way to compensate for feelings of lacking and wanting. Yes, the common fallacy of perfectionism. We portray ourselves by applying makeup on our faces, behavior, interaction, and CVs. Makeup on all those things. This feeling of achieving this arises from a strong inferiority complex, that is, EGO, stemming from feelings of lacking and wanting.
It is this constant sense of lacking and wanting that has created fear and anxiety in us. We are continuously told that something is wrong with us and that we must always act to portray our self-worth in front of the world to compensate for our feelings of lacking and wanting.
