Our Therapist Krysten Blackshear does an awesome job on breaking down what complex trauma is and even walks us through an example of how one might approach it - the trio we used was sexual abuse, physical abuse and violence. We learned about some of the characteristics or fruit of these traumas and spent sometime on self-harm and self-mutilation which is a common fruit of sexual abuse. Krysten also gave two awesome exercises that can be used if you struggle with self-harm. Oh! We had a brief but interesting conversation on how the brain works and develops when you’re a baby which is greatly impacted when exposed to trauma.
