Campus Update: Seminars, Grant Boot Camp, Trans Awareness, Football, Pie Contest & Toy Drive—November 10–17 at Columbia
Hey Roar-ee, it's Jenny with your Campus Update for November 10 through November 17. Let's get you set for the week—fast. First up—the Environmental Health Sciences Department Seminar is today, Monday, November 10, from 11:45 AM to 12:45 PM at the Allan Rosenfield Building. Ben Johnson will introduce "Nature Health," a new journal of population health. In-person attendance is for Columbia affiliates; others can join via Zoom. Next, the NIH Grant Writing Boot Camp runs Tuesday and Wednesday, November 11–12, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM online. This intensive session demystifies the NIH application process, prepping you to submit a compelling grant proposal. Finally, Trans Awareness Week kicks off with a keynote by J. Harrison Ghee on Thursday, November 13, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Lerner Hall, Room 555. It's a great opportunity to engage with and support the trans community. Over the weekend, the Columbia Lions football team faced a tough game against the Cornell Big Red, resulting in a 39–17 loss. Despite the setback, the team showed resilience and determination. Looking ahead, the Lions are gearing up for the annual Empire State Bowl against Cornell on November 22. This rivalry game is always a highlight of the season, so mark your calendars and come out to support the team. On Wednesday, November 12, from 3:00 PM to 7:30 PM, Residential Life is hosting the 5th Annual Pie Making Contest in Schapiro Hall's Main Lounge. It's a perfect chance to showcase your baking skills and enjoy some delicious pies. Also, the 27th Annual Columbia Community Service Toy Drive kicks off today, November 10, and runs through December 17. Drop off new, unwrapped toys at designated locations across campus to bring joy to children in need this holiday season. This week in New York City, expect a mix of sun and clouds with breezy conditions. Temperatures will range from the mid-40s to mid-50s. Pack an umbrella for Monday, as there's a chance of showers early in the day. Overall, it's a typical fall week—layer up and stay comfortable. Your move: Register for the NIH Grant Writing Boot Camp by Tuesday morning to secure your spot. It's a valuable opportunity to enhance your grant writing skills. That's your quick Campus Update. I'm Jenny—catch you next Monday morning. Tap follow on your podcast app so you never miss a beat.
