Lisa Canning is a professional clarinetist and has been helping students and professionals alike improve their playing through her clarinet shop, Lisa’s Clarinet Shop, for 40 years. A graduate of Northwestern University, a former Robert Marcellus student, her business has been recognized by Music Trade Magazine as a Top 200 retailer for over 10 years. An active member of the International Clarinet Association, Lisa was a featured speaker for Clarinetist as Entrepreneur In 2002 and also served on DePaul Universities School of Music Advisory Board for over 20 years. In 2002, Lisa was the Recipient of The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Women Business Owner of The Year Award.
Additionally, Lisa has been recognized as a leader in innovative education by the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship® in their recent publication (Dec 2014, Elgar Publishing) The New Paradigm: Creatives and Arts Entrepreneurs, Morris, M (ed.) Annals of Entrepreneurship Education and Pedagogy.
Lisa has also been a recognized speaker for the creative industries both in the US and abroad; PNB-NAPEO: 1st U.S. Maghreb Entrepreneurship Conference., U.S. State Department, Algiers, Algeria; World Leaders Forum: Judson University, Elgin, IL, Creativity and Entrepreneurship following President of The United States George W Bush; and The 6th Annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit by invitation of the White House in Kenya Nairobi.
