With the return of international football, the players returning from the Bafana camps seem to be overplayed, rundown and exhausted. This is a cause for concern as these players cannot perform to the best of their abilities when representing their respective clubs. Current head coach of current DStv Premiership log leaders and title holders Mamelodi Sundowns Rulani Mokwena recently came out and claimed that several of his first-team regulars returned from International duties being burnt-out or injured with no warning from the Bafana medical team. In a direct quote, Mokwena says “ With the Bafana players, it’s a very difficult situation. We can’t even communicate with the medical department, we don’t know the itinerary of Bafana, we don’t know the training program.” Speaking on the Sl Podcast’s The Carwash, former Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Bafana Bafana star, Teko Modise agrees with Rulani Mokwena and expresses confusion towards the Bafana camp. “Why are the players doing fitness tests when on International duty?” He continues to go on by saying that “Surely if you’ve been selected for the International team, you should be fit?”
Staying local, but venturing out of South Africa into Egypt, former Mamelodi Sundowns coach, and serial title winner, Pitso Mosimane has recently come out and spoke to the press about Al Ahly’s decision ti allow him to see out his R54million-a-season contract. On the latest episode of The Carwash, former Mamelodi Sundowns and Ajax Cape Town goalie Sean Roberts sits down with former Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Bafana Bafana star Teko Modise to discuss the current state of footballers who return to their clubs after international duties. The crew also speak about coach Pitso’s contract with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, and what financial costs are involved in not
