Episode 150: Carrie-Lynn Hotson , CHRL & her book, VISH – Value, Inspire, Support, Hear: The Essential Elements of Business Success

ABOUT CARRIE-LYNN

In this second visit to The Book Leads Podcast, Carrie-Lynn, an Organizational Coach, Author, and Leadership Expert, talks about how things have changed since her first visit to the series in Episode 32 in which we covered her book, Knowing Who You Lead: Important Lessons On Why We Need To Understand Those We Lead. It's always great to have a conversation with someone who's returning to the series. I get to see how much they've changed and evolved in that time since our last meeting, and what's lead up to her latest book on VISH.

Since our first episode together, Carrie-Lynn's focus has shifted to both sides of the leadership equation -- both the leaders and those being led. She makes the great point that you can't work on anyone's leadership with them if you don't understand what it is they see and perceive in others, what others see and perceive in them, and how those understandings reconcile (or don't). And it all comes back to LISTENING to each other. Not just doing, working, helping, and surviving but utilizing, practicing, exemplifying deep, considerate listening.

CONVERSATION HIGHLIGHTS

• Leadership Coach vs. Organizational Coach

• "...it opens up this world of opportunity to really go to that next level of understanding."

• One of the biggest mistakes we all make.

• Let's just get curious about each other."

• The evolution of someone's needs.

• The importance of what a new employee does and doesn't understand.

• Conflict as an opportunity.

• When we're not good at conveying (or knowing) what it is we need.

• The (super)power of self-correction.

• What V.I.S.H. means - "I need to ensure people feel valued, inspired, supported and heard."

• Intent vs. Impact

The MAIN QUESTION underlying my conversation with Carrie-Lynn is, How are you listening to others to understand how they need to be valued, inspired, supported, and heard?
