🌎 Today's guest is Dr Jaris Swidrovich from Toronto in Canada. Jaris is Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from the University of Toronto and a PhD Candidate in Education at the University of Saskatchewan. Jaris is currently an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream et the University of Toronto, Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy. He is a Two Spirit Saulteaux First Nations and Ukrainian man and pharmacist from Yellow Quill First Nation. Swidrovich is the first and only self-identified Indigenous faculty member in pharmacy in Canada. His areas of research and practice include HIV/AIDS, substance use disorders, 2SLGBTQ+ health, Indigenous health, social determinants of health, pharmacy practice, and pharmacy / health professions education.
🎯 Together, we’ll discuss Indigenous medicine within the dominant Western healthcare system in Canada and how Indigenous belief systems towards health may be considered in the healthcare setting when considering Western conceptual frameworks such as patient-centeredness.
