Period! On the Blob with Laura Coryton and Kenny Ethan Jones.

In this episode we discuss all things being on the blob with Laura Coryton and Kenny Ethan Jones.

Laura Coryton led the successful UK petition to end tampon tax, the sexist tax levy applied to all period products, which gained over 318,000 signatures and changed UK law in 2020. Her campaign is also set to change European law in 2022. She launched her social enterprise, Sex Ed Matters, in 2019, which delivers empowering Relationship and Sex Education workshops to UK schools and universities, for which she gained Number 10 Downing Street's 'Points of Light' award in 2022. Laura released her first book, 'Speak Up!', a campaign guide for rebel girls, in 2019.

Kenny Ethan Jones is a London based trans advocate who creates educational content about inclusivity, positivity and also his daily life. Kenny engages in open and respectful conversations on menstruation, body politics, mental health, and intimacy. Kenny is well known for being the first trans man to be featured on a period ad, and he has appeared on TV such as Channel 4’s ‘Genderquake’ and ‘Trans Kids: It’s Time to Talk’. Kenny is also a mentor within the LGBTQIA+ community.

In this episode, Kenny discusses his first experience with periods, how they changed during his transition, and how there is still so much work to be done to create inclusive products, advertising and language within the sanitary industry which includes all people who menstruate. Laura shares the struggles of getting her campaign to end tampon tax off the ground when no one - including her local MP - would listen, and how we can all support the fight to end period poverty.
