Episode 27 | Jake Kennington|

In Ep. 27 What happens when a reserved (welll, not really) engineer and an energetic creative get together and talk about connection? Magic!

Jake shares how he was inspired to coach other engineers to get the most out of their lives, why he plans to write a book for each of his kids, why he is passionate about belonging, and more.

ABOUT OUR GUEST: JAKE KENNINGTON

Jake Kennington is a storyteller at heart, though it took him years to claim that title. A husband, father of four, and structural engineer by trade, Jake’s true passion lies in shaping something far more important than buildings—human connection.

For much of his life, Jake followed a familiar path: work hard, build a career, provide for his family. But along the way, he realized that life isn’t just about what we build—it’s about who we become. His journey has led him to embrace change, prioritize relationships, and help others do the same.

Jake writes children's books, not to make a name for himself, but to pass on the lessons he hopes his kids—and others—will carry with them. His first book, The Difficult Life of a Little Brown Hound, is a simple but powerful story about learning to embrace change and find joy in the unexpected. His next book, already in the works, explores the importance of building confidence in ourselves through experience and taking the leap to overcome external and internal fears.

Beyond writing, Jake coaches engineers and technical professionals, helping them balance ambition with a life that feels whole and fulfilling. He shares his reflections in a weekly newsletter and through his work at Actively Human, a company dedicated to fostering creativity and meaningful connections.
